There are many ways to bring history and research to life – public speaking, infographics, video, to name a few!
Public speaking
I love working with organisations and talking about belonging and history, and sharing stories that might be helpful with your journey. Some recent highlights include being part of the IWG Women and Sport conference with more than 1800 people passionate about women’s sport, and being invited by NZ Cricket to present to their Major Associations on belonging and equity in community sports organisations.
In July 2023, I presented on feelings of belonging by women and men who work in regional football associations in NZ, at the Sport and Gender Research Symposium, ‘Reimagining Fields of Play’, at the University of Waikato.
In April 2023, I presented as part of a webinar hosted by Harbour Sport on “Equity and belonging in community sport”, along with Glen Maguire from Silverdale Rugby Club. You can check it out here.
In November 2022, I presented at the International Working Group on women and sport conference. Over 1,800 people attended the conference in Auckland, and it was a full and engaged room that I presented research findings and facilitated into a workshop. It was also streamed online, which you can see here.
In December 2019 I presented at the Sport Management Association of Australia and New Zealand (SMAANZ) conference on Sport NZ’s Women and Girls Strategy. My session was one of three that were live streamed, so it was captured on video! Click here to check it out.
In December 2020 I presented at the SMAANZ conference on understanding attitudes to diversity in community sport. This time it was online due to travel restrictions with Covid.
Webinars
I have presented and facilitated a number of online webinars and presentations, including:
Managing imposter syndrome and burnout (panelist), SMAANZ panel discussion, 25 September 2023.
Social media in a PhD: Tips and tricks for maximising your reach and connections, (facilitator). SMAANZ HDR (Higher degree research students) webinar, 25 February 2022. Webinar available here.
Tools to tackle your PhD, SMAANZ HDR webinar. Summary here, 7 October 2021.
Goal setting and tools to implement them, presentation and workshop to Scholars @ Massey (a leadership group of students who all received scholarships), 16 February 2021.
My COVID-19 conundrum: Data collection and analysis during a pandemic. SMAANZ HDR webinar, 15 May 2020.

Infographics
In 2019 I did the data analysis of a survey on women coaches for High Performance Sport NZ. In 2021, I developed these infographics to tell the story of that data. The infographics can be accessed and downloaded from the HPSNZ website here.

Wellington Phoenix March to the Match
For the opening match of the 2013 A-League season, I organised a “march to the match” for fans, starting from Queen’s Wharf in Wellington to the stadium. It included most of the junior football clubs in Wellington, the Wellington Brass Band, Brazilian dance and music group Batucada, acrobatic artists, local band Uncle Monkey, and a number of our commercial partners including The Hits radio station. Hayley Smith created this amazing video that captured the event.
NZ Football FIFA U-20 World Cup #NZWhiteOut
In 2015 Aotearoa hosted the FIFA U-20 World Cup. As part of our fan engagement, we created this video to encourage fans to wear white to match our national team. I liaised with a number of other sports including hockey, swimming and the Vodafone Warriors who all joined in, as well as the Auckland mayor Len Brown and Minister for Sport and Recreation Hon Jonathan Coleman.
Video magic was done by Shane Wenzlick at Phototek.
Digital publications
One way to make content engaging and accessible is to digitise it. I did this with football programmes, tournament guides, and a quarterly issue for Kantar NZ. I created the concept and usually the content, and worked with amazing designers to bring them to life!
Design for the Kantar NZ publication was done by the Colmar Brunton Creative team.
Design for the NRFL programme was done by Holly Dillon.
Design for the Capital Football programmes was done by Sauce.
