Testosterone study issues correction days after the Olympics

This week is a highlights edition with just some of the key stories. It’s been a big week, with the sudden move into Level 4 lockdown, plus the challenging stories on Cycling NZ and World Athletics. Cycling NZ have announced a review into their culture following the death of Olivia Podmore, but as has been pointed out there have been reviews, we know the issues, it’s time for action.

Big news for World Athletics – just days after the end of the Tokyo Olympics, the authors of the study which was used as proof that higher testosterone in women gives an unfair advantage have issued a “correction”. They now say that the study overstated the competitive advantage from elevated testosterone levels. It was this research that was used to ban the likes of athlete Caster Semenya and others from competing and influenced policies on transgender and non binary athletes. Another example of why I am against sports organisations being so quick to resort to banning.

I read some great advice this week – under Level 4, you are not working from home but you are at home trying to work during a pandemic.
